Emma & Danny’s Lake District Love-In..
Almost eleven years to the day since first meeting in Heebie Jeebies through mutual friends, Emma and Danny tied the knot at their UK destination wedding in the heart of the Lake District…
‘I guess you can say we had a long courtship,’ said Emma, ‘But Danny always said he wanted to wait until he could give me my dream wedding and oh my goodness, did he deliver!’
‘We were celebrating the New Year with friends and family in Abersoch and Danny (finally!!) popped the question in our favourite restaurant Fresh. I think the ring must have been burning a hole in his pocket as he was down on one knee before I’d even had a sip of my wine! It was so lovely though and I couldn’t wait to start planning.’
The couple chose the magnificent Askham Hall in the village of Clifton in the Lake District for their big day. ‘We had an idea we wanted to get married in The Lakes, said Emma. ‘One of our friends had been Best Man at Askham Hall a year ago and he was insistent we checked it out. We had booked a few viewings but as soon as we saw it we knew it was the place for us. It had the lovely rustic feel we wanted and the whole place was just so pretty. Its family run too so the team are really lovely and it’s not pretentious at all which we loved.’
‘We totally fell in love with the history, character and charm of the place and knew it was the perfect venue for us.’
Askham Hall is a stunning venue on the edge of the Lake District national park. Perfect for a modern ‘manor house’ wedding the privately-owned venue boasts its own Grade 2 listed barn, country pub, medieval hall and exquisite rooms and is the jewel of Cumbria’s Lowther Estate.
The couple wanted a relaxed, rustic themed day with lots of personal touches. Emma looked after most of the décor herself using lots of outdoor elements such as logs dotted with candles and her favourite Hendricks Gin bottles stuffed with gorgeous seasonal blooms.
‘We wanted to keep the décor in theme with the venue,’ said Emma. ‘Bank Barn is so beautiful we wanted to retain its natural charm so just added a few touches like bunting and some cool signs we had made by the team at Danksy’s Arts and Crafts in Birkenhead to personalise the space.’
With guidance from the venue, Emma and Danny were able to fulfil their dream of a country church wedding by saying ‘I Do’ at the beautiful St Peter’s Church which is in the village of Askham itself.
‘The Church part was just gorgeous, ‘said Emma. ‘Our little boy Daniel was our page boy and the star of the show for us. He was a little bit overwhelmed but carried his special sign down the aisle beautifully.’
Once the couple had made their vows they walked the short distance from the church through the ‘secret garden’ that wraps around the hall to be greeted by fizz, canapés and their super-glamorous guests!
Emma wore a stunning Ronald Joyce gown which she bought from Tina Louise Brides in West Kirby. ‘Natalia, Janine and the team were just amazing,’ said Emma. ‘They really helped me find the perfect dress. I wanted my Cinderella moment and the dress was just the right mix of tradition and contemporary and I LOVED my veil.’
‘Getting ready was the best fun. It helps when a couple of your best friends are hairdressers and I can’t thank Jude, Sarah and the team from Faith in Newton enough.’
‘I had so much help from my girlies in the run up to the wedding. My sister Rachel was my biggest support and Danny’s Mum Kathleen and his sisters were brilliant too. I want to do it all again!’
The four ‘grown-up’ bridesmaids looked stunning in plum, lace encrusted gowns from Lipsy whilst the three flower girls looked adorable in their ivory Monsoon numbers.
‘All of my bridesmaids were family members. My sisters, cousins and beautiful nieces did me proud – they couldn’t have looked more gorgeous.’
Danny and his army of groomsmen, page boys and dads looked the part in their super-smart suits from Attire Menswear in Wallasey. The soft greys worked perfectly alongside the deep plums of the bridesmaids creating the perfect look for this wonderful winter wedding.
Emma and Danny sourced a mixture of Merseyside and Cumbria based suppliers to add the perfect finishing touches to their day…
Laura Tuer from Greenwheat Flowers in Penrith provided the stunning floral artistry for the day.
‘I cannot explain how much I loved my flowers, ‘commented Emma.’ Nothing was too much trouble for Laura and my bouquet was just to die for. ‘
The stunning bridal bouquet was packed with burgundy astrantia and astilbe, amnesia roses, pepita spray roses, silver green thistle, polive brunia, scenicio & eucalyptus whilst the bridesmaids carried simple oversized posies of gypsophila.
‘The amazing Joe Stockdale was another recommendation from a friend. He grew up in Penrith and having done many weddings at Askham he knew all the best places to get good shots. He understood exactly what we wanted and made the whole experience such a pleasure.’
The fabulous rustic style naked cake was created by the bride’s friend Chloe Edwards. Layers of lemon and vanilla sponge topped with an explosion of mini-meringues, macaroons and fresh flowers all the guests said it tasted every bit as good as it looked.
Mike and the gang from Boom Events made the journey up from Merseyside to entertain the party loving guests with two sets of cracking tunes. The party went on into the wee hours and they kept the dance floor buzzing all night long!
Would You Change Anything?
‘From the stunning food – all grown locally on the estate at Askham to the magical surroundings and our wonderful guests the day was just perfect from start to finish.
‘We had a pre-party on the Friday night and although it wasn’t supposed to be a ‘mad one’ we ended up doing the conga and dancing to Billy Joel until gone midnight. The whole thing was a real party from the minute we arrived on the Thursday evening which is just what we wanted. Can we do it all again please.’
