Introducing Sophie & Lewis – Our Wedding Of The Year 2019
For a couple who met at a Valentine’s Masquerade Ball and got engaged in the ‘City of Bridges’ itself – no other location could come close. Saying ‘I Do’ in one of the world’s most romantic city’s is a great place to start but as the bride runs one of the regions busiest wedding dress boutiques we were intrigued as to how Sophie could create the wedding of her dreams and stand out from the crowd with her very own ‘princess’ moment at her stunning Venice nuptials…..
One of the two ‘Bellissima Belles’, Sophie runs the highly acclaimed Bellissima Brides Boutique in Brimstage with her sister-in-law Emma.
‘Emma and I both live and breathe weddings,’ commented Sophie. ‘Our lives are a constant whirl of lace, tulle, trunk-shows and designer gowns and we absolutely love it. I knew that planning my dream wedding would be full of, ‘what if we did this’ or ‘a bride I know did that’ but I also knew that Lewis and I both had quite set ideas about what we wanted from the day.’
‘Choosing Venice as the location was a real no-brainer as we got engaged there back in 2015 and fell in love with the place. We both love fashion too and we knew we wanted a glamorous day with a modern vibe that would be fun for our guests from start to finish.’
The couple chose the super-luxurious JW Marriot Resort as their venue. Set on its own island just minutes from St Marks Square by private water taxi, this awe-inspiring location is one of Venice’s most magical wedding venues. Surrounded by ancient parkland and filled with romantic backdrops and sumptuous spaces it provides the very finest setting for a stunning Venetian celebration.
The Glam Squad
Sophie knew she wanted to keep her look elegant and modern for the day but with a dash of Hollywood glamour. ‘I’ve used the same hairdresser (Dawn Rowlands) for ages now and really trusted my make-up artist (Sarah Gandy) to get my look just right so I flew them over for the big day,’ said Sophie.
‘They were absolutely amazing and nailed the fresh, elegant look I wanted perfectly.’
With six bridesmaids and the extended wedding party to look after, the talented ‘glam squad’ certainly had their work cut out but we think you will agree the final look was nothing less than perfection.
A mixture of Sophie’s best friends and closest family members including her sister-in-law and business partner Emma, the beautiful bridesmaids looked stunning in their white Dessy gowns from Bellissima.
‘I felt I could be brave with the bridesmaids and go for all white,’ said Sophie. ‘I knew my dress was pretty unique so there would be no mistaking who the bride was and the fresh white dresses really went with the natural, clean look I wanted. The grounds were so lush and green and with the backdrop of the Grand canal I knew the girls would look and feel incredible.’
With her day-job, Sophie knows the importance of finding ‘the one’. ‘I wanted to have the same magical experience as all of the brides who visit us at Bellissima. We try to make their day unforgettable and help guide them through our collections until they find the dress that was meant for them.
I’d seen a few really special dresses when I initially started looking so headed down to London for my bridal boutique day and ended up with the dress of my dreams.’
Sophie wore a stunning Atelier Provnovias creation called Rima. The stunning matt lace gown came complete with an incredible detachable organza coat and 157 inch long train.
Lewis was absolutely set on having a pure white jacket to match his shoirt (rather than the usual off-white variety) and so had his stunning suit custom made by the super-talented team at Whitfield and Ward. The rest of the groomsmen wore classic black tuxedos also from Whitfield and Ward and very dapper they looked too. They could have almost been filming for a Hollywood blockbuster!
The Star of The Show
Stealing the show on the day with her big-blue eyes and mini-me flower girl outfit was the couples daughter Penelope.
‘She is everything to us and so we wanted her to be a big part of the day’, said Sophie. ‘ I had some of the lace from my dress made into a mini flower girl outfit for her and she looked absolutely adorable. There were plenty of family there on the day to look after her but we made sure she was involved in every aspect.’
Along with her home-grown ‘glam squad’, Sophie hand picked all of her Italian suppliers.
‘We were so pleased with all of our suppliers,’ said Sophie. They were all super creative and really lovely to work with.’
Our Venice based wedding planner Jayne Seddon really helped with some fab recommendations and we ended up using the phenomenal Gabriele from La Dogaressa Flowers and our photographer was the wonderful Glauco Comoretto.
The reception took in every aspect of the stunning JW Marriot Resort. From cocktails and canapes on the hotels epic roof terrace post ceremony to dinner in the ornate Olive Garden and dancing till the wee small hours in the converted on-site chapel, guests were treated to an unforgettable night of fabulous food, luxurious drinks and on-point entertainment thanks to Lewis’ Dad, Paul.
‘The roof-terrace bit was amazing,’ said Lewis. ‘The sun was beating down and our guests were loving life with free-flowing Prosecco, Peach Bellini’s and Aperol Spritz of course.’
Dinner consisted of delicious hand-made seabass ravioli followed by local fillet of beef washed down with delicious local vino and Champagne.
As day turned to night, the wedding party moved on to the stunning converted Church on site. ‘It basically became a nightclub in the end,’ said Sophie. Our family and friends really know how to party which is just what we wanted. We wouldn’t change a thing and would do it all again in a heartbeat.’
‘It was a stunning day from start to finish spent with the best people. Our honeymoon will be this summer around out first year anniversary but we can’t decide where to go!’
We hear Venice is lovely in June Sophie! Thanks so much for letting us cover your magnificent big day guys and lots of love from us all here at Wonderful Wirral Weddings x
