So Near So…..Spa

Living and working just a couple of miles away from the pretty village of Thornton Hough, Thornton Hall hotel has always been on my radar. From charity balls and business meetings in the bar, to their famous Sunday lunch and Christmas party nights; I’d visited the hotel often but never stepped foot in the spa!

Sad but true, as an overworked, self-employed Editor – spending an afternoon luxuriating in the award-winning spa had never really presented itself.

But now I had a real reason to go….I am going to be a real-life Mother-Of-The-Bride!

My eldest daughter is tying the knot on a Greek island next year and its my job (amongst 100’s of others) to find some fab experiences for the hens.

So armed with a good book and my swimming costume I raced the 1.8 miles through the lanes to Thornton Hough ready for some full on fuss and much needed ‘me’ time….

Award Winning Luxury

From the moment I stepped foot inside the purpose built Spa and Health club entrance I knew I was in for a treat. I was greeted by a delicious smell of intoxicating oils and an impressive display of designer beauty treats in the stunning reception area. Armed with my robe, slippers and pile of fluffy towels I got ready for my first treatment.

First I got to try out the new and very invigorating mud rasul. This luxurious middle eastern treatment involves immersing yourself in a private spa room experience and applying mineral mud to your skin. You then relax in the steam chamber to allow the mud to work its magic before showering it of under the scented rainforest shower. With special mud for your face, legs and arms you will be left with the silkiest skin imaginable. This treatment is ideal for groups as the room accommodates up to 4 guests – so it’s a really fun, interactive options for hens looking for something a bit different and perfect for pre-wedding pampering.

Bubbles With A View

Suitably relaxed (with my now super-soft skin) I decided to take a dip in the outdoor Jacuzzi. It was a wonderfully crisp October day but the warm bubbles were just perfect and the view was just spectacular. Looking out over the Wirral countryside I couldn’t believe I hadn’t been here before. Total bliss.

With the main event still to come, I wasn’t sure I could take any more relaxation but oh my, the facial was on another level.

After a little chat with my lovely therapist Chloe about my skin and any issues I have I chose the Espa taster facial (25 mins £40) and it was utter perfection.

After a thorough cleanse and tone, Chloe applied a hydrating masque giving her time to treat me to a mini head, neck and shoulder massage using beautifully aromatic essential oils.

The whole experience was divine and I had booked my next visit before I left the treatment room.

And Relax…

A quick flat white and cheeky slice of carrot cake in the gorgeous bistro rounded off what was a short but super-relaxing few hours in this little slice of spa heaven.

So is it good for hen breaks?

Yes of course it is – I haven’t even touched on the gorgeous swimming pool, sauna, steam and even SNOW room, not to mention the amazing cocktails, fabulous food and super-affordable accommodation rates…but for now this is just going to be a MOB haven. Somewhere I can take some time out, look after myself a bit more and definitely NOT think about weddings at all!
